Description

After a day exploring the caves at Mammoth Cave National Park, enjoy the above-ground delights to be found at Barren River Lake State Resort Park. The lodge and cottages curve around the 10,000-acre lake, providing spectacular views of sunsets. In addition to boating and fishing, the resort features an 18-hole golf course, horseback riding, tennis courts, a beach, a pool, and a paved trail for hiking and biking.

Geography:

Barren River Lake State Resort Park is located in Barren County, Kentucky, and opened in 1965.

Recreation:

Barren River Lake has an abundance of largemouth, white, and hybrid striped bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, and rough fish. The lake's marina has 100 open slips, 40 covered slips, a launching ramp, rental fishing boats, and rental pontoons. A swimming pool near the lodge is for the exclusive use of lodge and cottage guests. A public beach, with a bathhouse complex, is the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day. The resort has four miles of woodland trails for nature study. The entire family will enjoy guided trail rides that depart every hour, seasonally. A lighted basketball court, two lighted tennis courts, shuffleboard, and volleyball courts, with rental sports equipment, are popular, and the park also hosts daily summer activities and year-round special events, with a trained recreation director. An 18-hole, regulation golf course with a fully equipped pro shop, riding carts, and rental clubs, rounds out this park's many activity options.

Facilities:

Surrounded by rolling, tree-covered hills, Louie B. Nunn Lodge overlooks the beautiful 10,000-acre lake and has 51 rooms with full amenities. In addition, the park's 22 two-bedroom, two-bath cottages have tableware, cooking utensils, and linens provided, with fresh linen available daily. Several cottages have lake views, while other cottages are nestled in the woods. Looking to sleep closer to nature? Let the sounds of the outdoors lull you to sleep in the 99-site campground. Utility hookups are available, and a dump station, showers, and restrooms are offered. The 146-seat dining room serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Two shelters with rest rooms (rental available), picnic tables, and grills are located near the main entrance to the park. Playgrounds are located in the lodge, cottage, and camping areas. Meeting facilities include two private dining rooms, seating 32 and 20 an executive conference room that seats 20, a large meeting room that seats 75, and a banquet room that accommodates 224-400. There is also a gift shop.

Visit the nearby Bridgadoon State Nature Preserve, located in Barren County, adjacent to the Barren River Reservoir. Dale Hollow State Resort Park is also in the vicinity.

Park is open April 1 through October 31.

The Beach will be open May 24, 2008.

Please note:

  • The maximum reservation window is 12 months in advance to the date.
  • New Inventory is made available when the call center opens.
  • There is a 1 night minimum stay during the week at all parks.
  • There is a 2 night minimum stay on peak season weekends at all parks with the exception of the Kentucky Horse Park.
  • The minimum stay on peak season weekends at the Kentucky Horse Park is 1 night.
  • Customers may arrive on a Friday or Saturday and stay a minimum of two nights.
  • Customer service is authorized to fill in any empty spaces caused by the 2-night weekend stay rule.
  • Please note the following:

  • Longer minimum night stays are required at most campgrounds during holiday periods.
  • Parks prohibits the importation firewood by campers from any state outside of Kentucky. This is in an effort to help prevent the introduction of the Emerald Ash Borer into the state.   • Please note that the Kentucky Department of Parks permits the use of non-licensed vehicles in campgrounds, including golf carts, only by those individuals with a disability. This policy will be enforced for the safety of all guests.
  • Kentucky Campground sites can be occupied by a maximum of 8 occupants. Four (4) adults and children 16 and under are included in the base rate. Each additional adult is $5.00 per night will be collected upon arrival at the park.
