Overview

Description

Greenbo Lake State Resort Park is named for its central feature, placid Greenbo Lake, in which visitors love to fish. Spending the afternoon on a boat on this peaceful lake is a great way to relax. A lakeside swimming pool with a spiraling waterslide, hiking in the forest around the lake, and relaxing at the beautiful fieldstone lodge at this resort are all favorite activities. The resort's lodge is named for Jesse Hilton Stuart (1906-1984) author, educator, Poet Laureate of Kentucky, and native son of Greenup County. Stuart was continually inspired by the beauty to be found in Kentucky's hills, and many visitors to this park are similarly impressed by its natural beauty.

Geography:

Greenbo Lake State Park is located in Greenup County.

Recreation:

Perfect your putting on the 18-hole miniature golf course in the camping area, open April-October. The hiking trails provide the perfect opportunity to enjoy the scenery of the beautiful Greenbo forest. Self-guided trails provide 33 miles of easy to difficult hiking. Tennis and basketball courts are located in the park and sports equipment may be checked out by overnight guests. Daily summer activities and year-round special events for children and adults are planned under the guidance of a trained recreation director. Greenbo Lake's 225 acres are home to two state largemouth bass records! The lake also holds large bluegill, crappie, catfish, and trout. The marina, open April-October, offers 65 open slips and rental pontoon boats, row boats, canoes, and motor boats. A fishing pier and boat ramp for launching boats are open. A swimming pool adjacent to the lodge is for the exclusive use of lodge guests, and a community pool next to the sunning beach features a water slide and a children's area with a rain tree (open during the summer).

Facilities:

Greenbo Lake has a total of 103 sites:
15 Full Service, Pull Thru Sites (44, 46-51, 60, 62, 64, 66, 68, 69, 74, 75)
28 Full Service Sites (23-28, 43, 45, 52-59, 61, 63, 65, 67, 70-73, 76-79)
36 Standard Electric Sites (1-22, 29-42)
24 Primitive Sites (P1-P24)
Three dumping stations, two central service buildings with showers and restrooms, and a grocery store guarantee camping convenience. The park has two picnic shelters in the beach area (with restrooms), and in the campground (without restrooms). The shelters, available for advance rental, have picnic tables, grills, and playgrounds. The Jesse Stuart Lodge has a 232-seat dining room serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as a gift shop. Most of the 36 rooms feature private patios and balconies overlooking Greenbo Lake. In the Jesse Stuart Library and Reading Room, located in the lodge, guests may examine the works and mementos of this famous Kentucky author and poet. Also in the lodge, the Greenup, Carter, and Boyd Rooms each seat 100 for meetings or events, and the main meeting room can accommodate 300.

Nearby Attractions:
