Description

Fort Boonesborough State Park is the site of Ft. Boonesborough, founded in 1775 by Daniel Boone. A full scale replica of the original fort, complete with living historians is the parks main feature. The park is located in the Central Kentucky Bluegrass Region along the Kentucky River and is near to such attractions as the horse farms around Lexington, the arts and crafts of Berea, and White Hall State Historic Site that is only 8 miles away.

Alerts and Important Information

Kentucky Campground sites can be occupied by a maximum of 8 occupants.Four (4) adults and children 16 and under are included in the base rate. If more than 4 adults are going to be on the site, an additional $5.00 per night per adult will be collected upon arrival at the park. Max units per site is (2) and may include (1) camper unit + (1) tent. If no camper unit, then (2) tents is the max allowed.

During the winter months, water is turned off on site, but the restrooms are open and water fill-up is available all winter. There are three dump stations located in the campground. If two families agree to share a site each camping unit must be registered and a fee paid.

Please note that the Kentucky Department of Parks permits the use of non-licensed vehicles in campgrounds, including golf carts, only by those individuals with a disability. This policy will be enforced for the safety of all guests.

This Campground is in Eastern Time zone.


Quiet hours are from 11:00pm until 7:00am and no visitors are allowed during this time. Pets must be on a leash. No alcohol, firearms or fireworks. Dumping of sewage and gray water onto the ground is prohibited. Check out time is 1:00pm. In the event two families agree to share a site each camping unit must be registered.

Please note:

  • The maximum reservation window is 12 months in advance to the date.
  • New Inventory is made available when the call center opens.
  • There is a 1 night minimum stay during the week at all parks.
  • There is a 2 night minimum stay on peak season weekends at all parks with the exception of the Kentucky Horse Park.
  • The minimum stay on peak season weekends at the Kentucky Horse Park is 1 night.
  • Customers may arrive on a Friday or Saturday and stay a minimum of two nights.
  • Customer service is authorized to fill in any empty spaces caused by the 2-night weekend stay rule.
  • Please note the following:

  • Longer minimum night stays are required at most campgrounds during holiday periods.
  • Parks prohibits the importation of firewood by campers from any state outside of Kentucky. This is in an effort to help prevent the introduction of the Emerald Ash Borer into the state. Firewood is available for sale in the state park campgrounds. https://parks.ky.gov/firewood-policy
  • Golf carts are allowed in the campground by purchasing a permit at check-in. Permits are $25 for the week or $100 for the calendar year. Annual permits can be used at all Kentucky State Park campgrounds and the Kentucky Horse Park. Disabled guests are not required to purchase a permit if they display their disability hanging tag.
  • There is a special 7 day minimum for both The Boonesborough Boogie Car Classic and the Halloween Fest in October of each year. Any reservation that contains any of the dates below must be 7 days or more in length: October 14, 15, 21, 22, 2016; October 20,21, 27,28, 2017
  • Notes

    There is a community swimming pool located in the nearby picnic area. The nearest town is Winchester, KY and is located 8 miles north of the park. The park is located on the Kentucky River and has fishing. Bait and fishing licenses are available. There are several nearby restaurants.
