Throughout history, the salt springs at Blue Licks State Park have attracted prehistoric animals, Indians and pioneers such as the legendary Daniel Boone. Many 19th-century southerners came to the area seeking the rejuvenation of the therapeutic, bubbling waters. Blue Licks is more widely known, however, as the site of the last Revolutionary War battle in Kentucky. In 1782, Kentuckians engaged Indians and British soldiers near the Licking River. Outnumbered, Kentucky suffered great losses, including one of Boone's sons. Boone's words, "Enough of honour cannot be paid," are inscribed on the monument dedicated to the fallen soldiers in the Battle of Blue Licks. Walking, hiking, and enjoying the museum are just a few ways to enjoy this historically significant park.
Blue Licks Battlefield State Park is located along historic Highway 68 just 48 miles northeast of Lexington KY.
Visit the Pioneer Museum to learn more about the history of Blue Licks State Park. The 18-hole miniature golf course, open seasonally, is perfect for family entertainment. The River Trail is a one-mile loop trail to the Licking River, near the site where Daniel Boone and his men were once captured by Shawnee Indians on a saltmaking expedition. The Buffalo Trace hiking trail (.2 miles) is a trail of the trampled remains of an ancient buffalo path. Other trails available include the Savannah Loop (.5 miles), Indian Run Loop (.8 miles), and The Blue Licks Heritage Trail (2 miles).
Tables, grills, and playgrounds are located throughout the park for a great picnic outing. The park has two picnic shelters, one with restrooms, available for rental in advance. Three rooms at the lodge accommodate meetings or banquets: The Daniel Boone Room seats 175, The Pavilion seats 225, and The Arlington Room seats up to 125.
The well-known Kentucky Horse Park is nearby.
Reservations must be made 1 Day(s) ahead of arrival and can be made up to 12 Month(s) in advance.
